Ballwin – The Ann Wagner for Congress campaign is proud to receive the “Contender” status today by the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) for the 2012 election cycle.

As part of the latest round of reviews, Wagner is one of only three candidates nationally to receive the “Contender” status. To date, less than 15 candidates across the country have received the touted designation.

“Our focus has been to build a strong grassroots campaign that reaches all corners of the district and to ensure we have the financial resources to run a very aggressive campaign,” said Wagner. “The latest designation by the NRCC is a great recognition of the support and momentum our campaign is building to win in November because we must put an end to the current assault on our freedoms, crippling debt, job-killing regulations, and a blatant disregard for the Constitution that is promoted by this administration in Washington DC.”

The “Contender” status is part of the Young Guns program initiated by Majority Floor Leader Eric Cantor, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, and Budget Chairman Paul Ryan. In 2010 approximately two-thirds of the Young Guns designated candidates were elected to Congress.
